What's probably even more impressive is the fact that Waterfox also supports Chrome Web Store extensions, as well as Opera Store extensions, and, of course, Firefox Store extensions. While this is still part of Waterfox's identity even today, its main advantage is the fact that it supports all legacy plugins, most of which weren't and still aren't supported since the introduction of Firefox Quantum's engine back in 2016. While this was done primarily for speed, it also had some direct privacy benefits.

The undisputed advantages of WaterfoxĮven since the first days, Waterfox managed to be a bit faster than Firefox because it stripped all of Mozilla's telemetry elements. That was not all, over the years, Waterfox cemented its identity as a customizable and quick browser (a bit faster than Firefox, and most other browsers), as well as a privacy-focused browser, despite its somewhat non-aggressive stance on the matter. Interestingly enough, even Firefox (from which Waterfox was forked), only officially supported 32-bit architectures at the time. Waterfox quickly gained an impressive following because it used the 64-bit platform. This was also the fate of Waterfox, a Firefox-based browser built by Alex Kontos, a 16-year-old student (at the time, in 2011).

However, from time to time, browsers that offer something new or unique usually make it into the spotlight. Considering just how saturated the browser market is nowadays, it's almost impossible for a newcomer to penetrate what seems to be an insurmountable wall of tools financed by big tech companies. The only choices there are "All Windows" and "Quit."ĭid I do something incorrect when I made the. Waterfox Classic will still not permit me to make it a favorite by right-clicking on the icon. I read the instructions on how to do this, and here is the file I created:ĥ Exec=/home/kathleen/waterfox-classic/waterfoxĦ Icon=/home/Kathleen/Pictures/waterfox icon.jpeg I did some reading and discovered I had to create a file called sktop and place it in the folder. When I ran the "gsettings" command to show the order of all my launcher icons so that I could rearrange the order via terminal, the Waterfox Classic program did not show up at all. It's also stuck in that position at the very bottom of the launcher. Thereafter it's been on the launcher at the very bottom, and right-clicking shows I cannot make it a favorite. In order to start the program initially, I had to go into the Waterfox files and click the executable. However, Waterfox Classic 2020.07.1 has given me a big problem. Chrome gave me no trouble, and I can mark it as a "favorite," which allows me to rearrange its position on the launcher. Early this week I installed Ubuntu 20.04.1, a fresh installation.
